Travelling long distances for work is a lot more common nowadays and as our work is so varied, this means many hours can be spent en-route to somewhere. While this can seem a waste of valuable time, it is surprising how the time spent travelling by car, plane or train, can in fact be very valuable “thinking” time. It is amazing how little time we normally set aside for dedicated thinking due to an overwhelming feeling of guilt that you are not “doing” anything! So travelling time can in fact be a bonus often resulting in a productive plan of action that would have taken a lot longer to reach in the office with the distractions of phones and emails. Maybe we should all plan a weekly drive as part of our working week…. now there’s an idea!
