The value of member benefits

We work with a number of companies that provide CPD and other benefits to their members and after listening to the VPMA webinar yesterday lunchtime it struck me just how valuable these memberships are. There are various reasons why we choose a particular format of CPD and these choices are catered for by many associations and companies. For example, a friend on maternity leave is able to keep up with her CPD requirements as a “Cat savvy nurse” and has a FREE nurse membership with International Cat Care –  http://www.icatcare.org/press-media/cat-savvy-nurses-lap-new-nursing-membership. This provides her with regular, topical CPD in webinar format to fit around baby requirements! VPMA’s lunchtime webinars are free to members and cover topical issues facing veterinary practice today. Managers and other members can access them during lunchtime (an excuse to at least get a lunch break on these days) in a bite size format of half an hour with 15 minutes of Q&As – giving time to nip out and grab your sandwich all within an hour! As well as these, VPMA regional organisers arrange interactive CPD all over the country and I have just signed up for my FREE afternoon at one of these to listen to 3 industry speakers – and there will be cups of tea! And of course, it is not just about CPD; there are many other benefits that association membership brings -BVNA for example offer additional benefits like careers advice, well-being support & resources as well as a confidential advisory service

So you’ll find many veterinary associations offering various types CPD & benefits; the important thing is to make the most of it – we all admit to looking at the membership renewal invoices and thinking “is it worth this”? but when you make the most of it, it is worth a lot more.
