During one of the breakfast meetings at VPMA/SPVS congress there was a comment made about work-life balance and that with technology, it is too easy to be checking emails on phones and getting the laptop/iPad out to do “a few minutes” of work, when you are at home.
It is 8pm and I find myself turning my laptop back on to “have a quick look” at a Consulting Nurse presentation I have written and will be delivering in a couple of days’ time. I have delivered it before, I know what is in it but there is some niggle in my brain that needs to see it now. If the computer was in another building, it wouldn’t bother me, but knowing it is easily accessible makes me want to look at it now! Children are told to only have limited time on their computer games but are adults just as bad – or worse? How would we cope if we were told no technology for work related things between certain hours?
