There was a discussion on Radio 2 today about a petition called Harvey’s law which has exceeded the 100,000 signatures needed for debate in Parliament (a bit like the BVA Non-Stun slaughter debate which has reached 113,000 signatures and due to be debated next Monday). The aim of the Harvey’s law debate is to lobby for local authorities to be responsible for checking the identification of any deceased pets found, and informing the owner of the discovery. I’m sure that you, like many vets and nurses, have picked dead pets up off the road and brought them back to the surgery to be scanned, but it’s sad to think of how many get left lying there.
The show also made me think about how practices might use topical issues to engage with the pet owning public and clients. Does your practice marketing plan allow for impromptu media pick-ups? Do you have someone responsible for updating your social media when stuff like this this airs or do these opportunities pass you by? Marketing is not only about products but also communicating your ethos of a caring and sharing business by highlighting topics of potential interest to your clients.
